As the summer progressed, he weather deteriorated. What had begun as a "lark in the park" disappeared into the fogs of July and August which enveloped much of the central coastline, especially San Francisco, and made life miserable much of the time. Days became cold, damp and misty and the carefree spontaneity of the earlier months rapidly dissipated.
